Flipping Out @ Flipped Classrooms & Social Media

The FLIPPED Classroom and More

Part I: Flipped Classrooms:
I would LOVE this method of teaching, and I honestly feel this is more in-line with the way I was taught in school "back in the day." It's also more in-line with the way I have taught Honors English in the past; however, adding the technology aspect with my classes next year will take that to a much higher level. I will be teaching English I Honors next year, and I hope to "flip" my flipped-out classroom all the time! The biggest problem I foresee lies with students who have no internet access at home...Any suggestions?

Part II: Social Media:
I just wish we could guarantee that students would utilize social media for positive purposes--not for negative ones. That's kind of  a problem with all of life, or at least it seems that way to me...I would LOVE to utilize social media for learning communities in my classes next year; I am just not sure how to do it...Any suggestions?

  1. In regards to kids who do not have Internet access at home, maybe you could call the Main Library and request a list of operating hours for all of the branches and distribute a handout to your students. I might also include the times the computers at school could be accessed.

    1. Thanks for the excellent suggestion! I will start the year next year with that information written on my syllabus for the students. It should really help in the 9th grade Honors English class-- especially for those kids I always find myself worrying about...
